Adios Melbourne

July 15, 2013

After another few days of non-stop fun, Omar and I are on our way to the airport late tonight to start our trek to Darwin.  We left Melbourne with a bang as the pictures below show!   A shout out to our hosts Nik and Irma who defined graciousness - thank you!

Omar off roading the FJ1 in the Wombat Forest.  We only rolled the car once . . . just kidding.

Just a vague idea of some of the mud puddles we were up against.

Ooohh la la!  Get a room Mr. and Mrs. Kangaroo!

Both O and I were able to touch the wild animals with some intense coaching from Nik about maintaing eye contact and not turning our backs on them.  Terrifying!

Nik and O at Hanging Rock.  Legend has it 4 school girls and a teacher disappeared here, years ago on a school picnic.  One girl made it back days later with no memory of what happened and the rest were never heard from again!!!

The Melbourne Museum

Phar Lap  - the now stuffed and dead famous racing horse from the early 1900's.  He won so many races they had to weight him and give him a delayed start to even the field.  And he still won.

The museum had soo much fun stuff to look at (gems, dinosaurs, stuffed animals, weird fish of the deep, Melbourne history, ancient jewels from Afghanistan, etc.) we came back a second day to finish!

  3. I love the rebel flag reflected in the windshield of the car. That's hilarious.
