Tropicbird, along with our two new Spaniard friends who joined the boat in Riung, are sailing towards Labuan Bajo, the major stop for all Sail Komodo. We have spent the last week or so (I can't event tell you what day it is, let alone traveling times) stopping along at small towns and uninhabited islands to anchor and snorkel and join in Sail Komodo events. Hopefully we will find wifi when we anchor today to get this baby online!
The small town of Marokpot - mud stilt houses. The best night anchorage yet . . . the phosphorescent in the water at night was so bright we went night snorkeling!
We made friends with the local sofa maker, who invited us in for drinks. I am telling you . . . celebrities!!!
Albino water buffalo . . . who knew???
So I basically get stung on a daily basis. Yeah laugh it up Sean. Jerk! One day there were so many jelly fish I was able to catch two as pets! Meet Jilly and Joe.
Omar and I outside our favorite restaurant in Riung, Cafe Del Mar.
So I thought they were using cotton to weave here . . . turns out the fluff comes from these giant pods on trees.
Any idea what type of tree?
The flying fox bat colony outside Riung - 2,000 plus bats!
They are the world's biggest bat species!
After the bats we went to the 17 Islands Marine Reserve for a day of snorkeling and relaxing on white sand beaches.
Back to Riung for dances that evening, all put on by the local elementary school.
Traditional and not so much . . .
No radio . . . no problem!
Our tour for the day to the traditional village of Rendu Tutubhada. The locals actually cried when us Sail Komodo folks left!!!
Omar and I in the head hut with the town elders - the Mister is 98 years old and his hot (blind) trophy wife - 89 years old.
The traditional village of Boawea. Not the greatest living room for vegans.
The most amazing rice ever . . . bamboo rice! White rice cooked with coconut meat, garlic and ginger inside a bamboo stem over a fire.
I took some personal cooking lessons.
Omar and I with the traditional dancers of Boawea before heading back to Riung.
