We have arrived at Maurole a bit ahead of schedule. Since the crew was a bit exhausted from gala dinners and folkloric dances we went to Maurole ahead of schedule to do our own thing. We ended up renting scooters and going to Mt. Kelimutu.
Sunset at our anchorage at the idlic Maurole village. The village has part time power, no supermarket, and every house has chickens running around.
When there is no supermarket you go to the traditional market once a week. Here is Ali driving a hard bargain for her veggies and asking for organic certification. She got free Thai peppers instead.
We rented scooters and headed up to Mt. Kelimutu. Roads were fun although more adequate for a dual sport bike than a 100 cc scooter. Can't complain for a $15 scooter.
Up in the mountain is the most colorful market I have ever seen in my life. No wax, no fancy lights, no water sprays - just the most amazing veggies I have ever seen!
Here is Ali at the entrance to the Mt. Kelimutu National Park. Those flowers suit her well.
Here are two of the magical lakes at the volcano. They randomly change colors for reasons unknown.
Coffee Indonesia style. This man brings freshly ground Indonesian coffee and two jugs of hot water up the mountain, by hand, and its cheaper and better than any Starbucks coffee I have ever had.
Family trips Indonesia style. No minivan with leather seats and entertainment system? No problem - put them in the back of the dump truck.
Yep, that is my girlfriend reading her kindle while I pull over to take a picture. All is well with the world.
Got rice?
The road to Mt. Kelimutu was one of the better ones we have been on. It behoves you to pay attention to the road here though.
