Singapore Sling

November 6, 2013

What started as a 2 night trip to Singapore turned into 5 nights of fun!  We were able to find a hostel for US $7 a night that included breakfast and we met awesome locals who we hung out with several days in a row.  It's only a 60 min bus trip from downtown Johor Bahru to downtown Singapore, with clearing customs and if you get lucky with the traffic.  What a modern and fun city!

IMG 5363A German restaurant and store . . . in honor of Christoph.

IMG 5362And I found my favorite German vegan pate there!  Yeah!

IMG 5368The swirly stairs of of Bugis Village - a trendy shopping district.

IMG 5379Gardens by the Bay - home of the giant electric trees.  Free light and music show every night!

IMG 5400Omar and I splurged on a trip to the Night Safari! It's a nocturnal zoo that opens from 7:30 pm to midnight everyday and houses over 2,500 nocturnal animals.  Awesome!

IMG 5425It was near impossible to take pictures of leopards and tigers and sloth bears (oh my!) when it's dim and flash photography isn't allowed - so here's some fake elephants.

IMG 5428Yeah for vegan food!  Yeah for Veggie Cottage!

IMG 5432Our hostel has the cheapest beers around and the only beer garden for those perfect nights.

IMG 5436Little India in Singapore was just as happening as the one in Johor Bahru.

IMG 5445Haji Street - a hip little street filled with restaurants, bars and bicycle shops.  Fixies are in over here too!

IMG 5449A Christmas Miracle!!! - we found a Mexican restaurant.

IMG 5456Our new friends Max, Izzy, and Luke invited us to a beach BBQ after we spent the night with them on Haji St.

IMG 5451The BBQ had beats, slack line, hula hoops, acro-yoga, poi, and hoop aerialist fun for all.

IMG 5457Matt and Rhiannon got some coaching on acro-yoga.  Weee!

IMG 5568Omar in the swanky Raffles Hotel, named after Sir Stamford Raffles, the British commander who founded a lot of SIngapore.  Also home of the first ever SIngapore Sling! We didn't get one from the bar here - they were $30!!!
